Read BCIT’s report here
In response to the confusion and misinformation being generated by BC CADE around the Zero Carbon Step Code, faculty at the BCIT Zero Emissions Buildings Learning Centre have produced an informative and concise summary of responses to the following points of confusion.
- Does adopting the Zero Carbon Step Code mean no more natural gas?
- Will the Zero Carbon Step Code mean increased energy costs?
- Can’t we simply develop more electricity generation?
- Doesn’t BC have an excess supply of hydroelectric power with Site C?
- What about electric distribution capacity in our neighbourhoods?
- What is Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)?
This 6-page brief addresses confusion regarding gas stoves, fireplaces and barbecues, cost implications of the ZCSC, RNG, fuel-switching, BC Hydro’s resource planning, and more.
For those interested in learning more, Help Cities Lead – an education and awareness campaign led by Climate Caucus and a series of environmental organizations in BC – have also compiled a series of helpful reports, briefs, and a template slide deck that offer contextual and/or direct guidance about the Zero Carbon Step Code and how to support its adoption.
