Overview

This webinar was presented by the Zero Emissions Innovation Centre (ZEIC) with presenters from ZEBx. ZEBx is a program area of ZEIC.

This webinar explores a construction innovator’s approach to designing and delivering high-performance housing that can be manufactured off site or built on site and will provide insights for industry and local government from a new catalogue of practical, standardized, high performance, offsite-ready, affordable designs for multiplex to multifamily.

The approach, reflected in a new catalogue, has practical applications for local governments, design professionals, builders and developers.

Presenters

Rod Nadeau, Innovation Building Group, has worked intimately with design professionals on every facet of construction—including framing, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, foundation, envelope—to integrate and optimize well-established and advanced technologies and building practices to maximize performance and minimize cost, mistakes, time and risk for general contractors, trades and municipal permitting officials. Rod’s offsite-ready designs allow him to work with panel manufacturers or use simple framing table assembly lines onsite.

Rod was awarded a CMHC grant to create a catalogue of practical, higher performance multiplex part 9 and multi-family part 3 designs that can be used by homebuilders and developers across the province, using offsite manufacturers or building traditionally onsite.

Natalie Douglas will provide a critical commentary on practices and technologies, including standardization, to cost effectively deliver near zero new construction and expedite project cycles. Her insights are drawn from a library of multi-family, near-zero case studies, including Innovation Building Group projects, undertaken by the Zero Emission Building Exchange. Natalie Douglas is ZEIC’s ZEBx program manager.
